This is a remarkable book about the survival of Joe Simpson following a what should have been a fatal fall from a mountain in South America. The book is a gripping account of how he managed to survive and the driving forces behind his incredible achievement.
What happened to Joe is incredible and he survived against all odds.. it is easy to read and I personally couldn’t put it down. Metaphorically it has many valuable messages about life and how to tackle our own personal dilemmas. It shows how the unconscious mind can come into it’s own when one needs to access something deeper to help us get through.
It is a candid and honest report.
The book has been made into a film that won critical acclaim and is an excellent accompaniment to the book as it provides a stronger visual/ emotional link.
I would certainly recommend reading this and if survival books are your thing then you may want to also read books like:
- Into the Wild — John Krakauer
- Into Thin Air — John Krakauer
- It’s not about the bike and Every Second counts — Lance Armstrong
