Training to work with parents

This course has been developed in response to a demand for a generic training programme to support the work of professionals working with parents.

The curriculum enables learners to meet the National Quality Standards.

Who is it for?

  • Learners who are working on a formal or informal capacity with parents.
  • EG Adult Education Tutors; social workers; voluntary workers.

Level 1

  • Designed to build confidence and provide a progression opportunity for learners who have already completed parenting programmes.

Level 2/3

  • A more formal training and recognition of skills

Programme Aims:

  • Provide essential skills
  • Raise awareness about development needs of both parents and children
  • Develop understanding about the relationship between parents and children

What does the programme cover?

  • Both underpinning knowledge and skills

The underpinning knowledge covers life span, the developing role of parents, he developing parent and developing child/young person.

The practical skills cover working with parents; supporting parents and facilitation skills.

Please Note: Learners must complete all units to achieve full accreditation.

Course delivery:

  • Delivered over 30 half day sessions and 6 full day sessions
  • Please note: This can be adapted to suit organisational/learners needs

Learners are expected to commit to a minimum 80% attendance.

Where does it lead?

  • Level 1 - Learners who have completed a parenting course and wish to facilitate a parenting group
  • Level 2/3 - Opportunities to progress onto further training and job roles with the adult education and community sector

Please note: Evidence from the programme could be mapped to NVQ Qualifications, City & Guilds 7307 or other training courses.
